Andy Herrmann had already played in the quartet of legendary American saxophonist Robin Kenyatta during his piano studies at the Swiss Jazz School, and since then has been regularly on stage with numerous international jazz greats. After completing his compositional studies at the music academy in Freiburg, he devoted himself entirely to establishing his trio. With Henning Sieverts, one of the most sought after bassists on the German scene, and drummer Matthias Daneck whose rhythmical and sonic inventiveness was without equal, he found the perfect trio.

With the eight original compositions on his current CD "Looking Back", he delivers even more lyrical sophistication and jazz of the first class. His poetically formulated motifs stretch like an arc across the compositions, from the first till the last note, and allow "Looking Back" to be seen as a concept album. During the improvisations, which are far removed from any clichés, the Andy Herrmann trio allows one to experience traditional jazz virtues anew.

This description by George Gruntz, former programme director of the Berlin Jazz Festival, is worth adding: „Andy is one hell of a pianist! Technical skill is one thing evident with Andy, but that’s not “it“! To be a high-calibre jazz pianist you´ve got to have a special touch, a special concept in harmony and melody and a special concept of respecting those playing with you
