‘In the Mood for Christmas’ – A kaleidoscope of festive moods
With her new album In the Mood for Christmas, Austrian jazz singer Karin Bachner transports listeners to a world full of glamour, warmth and emotion. Each song is a sparkling gift – for everyone who loves Christmas, and even for those who view the festive season with a twinkle in their eye.
The title track ‘In the Mood for Christmas’ – a catchy tune composed by the singer herself with a rousing Motown groove and winner of 2nd prize at the USA Christmas Songwriting Competition 2024 – spreads festive energy and makes your ears sparkle.
Well-known classics appear in a surprisingly fresh guise: ‘White Christmas’ as a waltz dream, ‘Winter Wonderland’ with salsa swing, ‘Last Christmas’ as a swinging big band hit. In addition to international evergreens such as ‘Santa Baby’, ‘Jingle Bells’ and a jazzy version of ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’, there are also local favourites such as ‘Leise rieselt der Schnee’ and ‘Es wird scho glei dumpa’ – a charming bridge between Austrian tradition and international flair.
Two new interpretations of songs by the German a cappella cult band Maybebop and a sensually seductive version of Tom Waits‘ ‘Temptation’ provide special highlights. The romantic finale is ‘What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?’ – a musical flirtation at the turn of the year.
Bachner is supported by hand-picked vocal guests, including Austrian dialect icon Birgit Denk, Finnish singer-songwriter Jussu Pöyhönen, actress and singer Karin Maria Bauer, and cabaret artist and singer Ingrid Diem. The brilliant arrangements for the seven-piece Pocket Big Band are by award-winning German jazz composer and arranger Tobias M. Hoffmann.
A special seal of approval: the liner notes are by none other than Grammy winner Jamie Davis and legendary Swedish trombonist Nils Landgren.
