In the late 1950s, soul jazz—an evolution of hard bop—began to capture the ears and hearts of jazz fans. SOUL MEETING was born out of a deep passion for this musical genre, which uniquely combines groove, emotion, and virtuosity.
Inspired by legends such as Lou Donaldson, King Curtis, Horace Silver, Grant Green, and Hank Mobley, the quartet set out to reintroduce this unique sound to today’s audience. The music thrives on spontaneous improvisation, swing, virtuosity, and a powerful soulfulness that touches people—then as now.
With their new album Home Cookin’, the four Basel-based musicians of Soul Meeting are, so to speak, cooking up their own special blend and enriching the project with original compositions.
Especially in a time when pressure to perform, profit maximization, and social division are taking up more and more space, this project provides a deliberate counterpoint. It asks the question: Where is the soul in a world where everything must be profitable? Music—and soul jazz in particular—can step in right here: as a unifying force, as an expression of warmth, joy of life, and humanity. A “SOUL MEETING” concert is more than just entertainment—it’s a cultural experience that brings people together, stirs emotions, and creates a space for community.
Music that inspires you to both listen and dance!
